Dessalegn Masrie Mequanent
My Name is Dessalegn Masrie. I am from Ethiopia. Academically, I hold a BA in Political Science and International Relations and an MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from Addis Ababa University.
Professionally, I am a journalist with extensive media experience in broadcast, print, and digital outlets. I am also a professional graphic designer, video editor, cameraperson, content creator, brand strategist, and author of 13 bestselling books, eight of which are published in the United States.
I am the co-founder and CEO of BTV, a new start-up digital media company that focuses on business and economic issues in order to assist startups, entrepreneurs, business enterprises, and financial institutions by providing business, innovation, entrepreneurship, and important tips on emerging technology in the form of analysis, a series of seminars, and a documentary as unique solutions.
Understanding the role of media in business, technology, innovation, FinTech, and a country's growth is vital, so I established and became president of the Ethiopian Business and Economy Journalists Association. Through the association, I am striving to empower and strengthen the capacity of business and economic reporters working in Ethiopia's private and public media outlets.
I am very interested in talent acquisition, innovation, entrepreneurship, and knowledge marketing. Now adays, my professional expertize in one way, an other intertwined with these areas.
Inspired by the youth, I am working with STEMpower-VISA, which offers entrepreneurial and business education training program for young innovators and entrepreneurs since February 2021.
As part of this program, over the last two and a half years, allong with my colleagues, I have trained around 2,000 trainees, mentored and coached 500 start-ups, and helped over 120 startup entrepreneurs in successfully launching their businesses.
